As mankind spread to the stars, it was inevitable that conflict should arise. The further from Earth and the seat of Human government we went, the more difficult it was to enforce the rule of law. This was especially true of early settlement missions, before FTL transportation allowed for rapid transit to newly settled planets. When technology caught up to them, most colonists were grateful to be reconnected to a source of support. Some felt differently, chafing at increasingly burdensome government regulation and once again migrated outward.
